This table was created with the goal of making a very functional coffee table out of traditional materials that had a quality of lightness. The resulting table combines conventional joinery techniques with a novel approach to the connection of the table top to the base. Utilizing a sliding dovetail to affix the top to the cross members creates a strong mechanical connection while allowing for the natural expansion and contraction of the table top.
Designed and fabricated over a period of 5 weeks, the table is constructed out of white ash with shedua accents in the table top.
