This project was undertaken during a summer internship with General Motors' research division. Working in a team with three other Carnegie Mellon industrial design students, we were tasked with creating concepts of what could for the instrument panels of the Chevy Malibu and the Cadillac CTS of 2017.

Given the expectation of fully reconfigurable displays we went through the process of of creating something new while working in the constraints of notions about driving that have been formed over the past majority of the past century. We began with research into the current state of instrumentation in vehicles of all types and the well thought out and not so well thought out reasons for why things are the way they are. After our initial research phase we began designing and redesigning what a future IP could be without the constraints of static elements. Finally a mock-up of an automobile interior was created to facilitate a study of the new designs using an eye-tracking system during the following fall semester.
